Hosting and Maintenance

Sites are hosted on dedicated machines owned by MDC and co-located at a datacentre managed by a dedicated service provider. The dedicated service provider can boast 11 years of experience in developing and deploying IP technology, and fully trained systems administration team is on-site 24x7x365.

Systems are DELL PowerEdge Servers with disks in a RAID configuration to allow for hot-swapping in the event of a disk failure. Server hardware and operating systems are continuously monitored for failures (which are alerted to a 24x7x365 manned operations centre) and systems benefit from a 1-hour Service Level Agreement whereby on-site hardware spares are available in the unlikely event of component failure.

Full daily backup schedule for all critical files and SQL Server databases is in place. Files are backed-up online to an array of dedicated storage servers.

The server is secured in a DMZ on a resilient, multi-homed IP network. Telemetry monitoring of IP connectivity provides immediate notification of possible downtime in connectivity.

Critical updates to the operating system are applied by the manned operations centre as soon as they become available from Microsoft. Any critical system updates are applied (usually once a month) outside of normal working hours with minimal associated downtime. This equates to 99.99% uptime.

 The datacentre is specified to be highly fault-tolerant to power and network outages, and is supported by an on-site generator with gravity-fed fuel supply. Environmental protection includes a smoke detection system, argonite fire suppression, continuous CCTV coverage with motion detection, tracking and autonomous alerting.

Internet bandwidth to hosted applications is unrestricted.
